"On many occasions I have tasted wines from Washington that were doing quite well after 10, 15, 20 or more years. The winery with the absolute best -- virtually flawless -- record for this is Quilceda Creek."
--Paul Gregutt, Food & Wine, Seattle Times

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: "What states do you currently ship to for mail list customers?"
Because of uncertainties introduced by recent court decisions and legislative changes and varying interpretations of them by state regulatory agencies and carriers, it is not practical to maintain a current list of states where shipment is permitted. Presently, we believe carriers lawfully deliver to the following states: AK, AL, CA, CO, FL, HI, IA, ID, IL, KS, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, NH, NM, NV, NY, OH, OR, TX, VA, VT, WA, WV and WY.

We cannot warrant the accuracy of our assessment. We will check the latest sources before delivering your order to a carrier and, if shipment according to your instructions does not appear lawful or the carrier does not serve the location, notify you that it cannot be shipped to the address specified.

Question: "Is there a Quilceda Creek?"
Yes. Quilceda Creek is located in Marysville, WA just miles northwest of the winery. The word "Quilceda" is from the Tulalip Indian Tribe and means "salt water people."

Question: "Do you have a tasting room open to the public?"
Regrettably no. Due to our limited production, we sell out very quickly. We are only open to the public one weekend a year when mailing list customers can pick up their pre-purchased wine at the winery.

Question: "What other wines do you produce?"
In addition to the Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon we produce a limited amount of proprietary Merlot which is available by mail list only. In addition, we have two single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon offerings: The Galitzine Vineyard (inaugural release Fall 2007) and the Palengat Vineyard (inaugural release Fall 2009). We also produce a "second wine" called the Columbia Valley Red Wine which is a Bordeaux style wine.

Question: "When was the first vintage?"
The winery was founded in 1978 with the first Cabernet Sauvignon vintage in 1979.

Question: "Where are your vineyards located?"
Our vineyards are located in Eastern Washington, approximately 3 1/2 hours southeast of Snohomish.
Champoux Vineyard; Alderdale, Horse Heaven Hills AVA, Washington
Taptiel Vineyard; Benton City, Red Mountain AVA, Washington
Klipsun Vineyard; Benton City, Red Mountain AVA, Washington
Ciel du Cheval; Benton City, Red Mountain AVA, Washington
Galitzine Vineyard; Benton City, Red Mountain AVA, Washington
Palengat Vineyard; Alderdale, Horse Heaven Hills AVA, Washington

Question: "What makes Eastern Washington such a good grape source?"
What most people do not know is that Eastern Washington is located near the same latitude as the Bordeaux Region of France. Eastern Washington is primarily desert, exhibiting a very warm (and consistent) growing season receiving an additional 2-3 hours of sunlight than California’s Napa Valley. In addition, cold nights lower the temperature 30 or more degrees allowing the grapes to rejuvenate from the long hot days.

Question: "What is declassified wine?"
Prior to the blending process of our vintages, Alex, Paul and Marv will evaluate every barrel blindly and rate the wine on a 100-point scale. Any barrel or lot that does not make a certain score is declassified so as to elevate the characteristics and qualities of what the winemakers feel are representative of the vintage. Any aspect of the wine that may dilute or diminish the Cabernet Sauvignon offering is removed from the final process. This declassified wine—Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Red Wine—is blended with other declassified wine and bottled under the separate label. Approximately 35-38% of any given vintage will be declassified. While not as elegant as the premium wine, the Columbia Valley Red Wine represents an excellent value in today’s wine market.
