A Washington State winery with no equal, Quilceda Creek is dedicated exclusively to the production of world-class
Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux varietals. Founded in 1979, Quilceda Creek has become a benchmark for Cabernet Sauvignon
in Washington State and there's a reason for such excellence. The meticulous attention to detail that I noticed
during my trip to the winery is surely a part of the equation. But it's not only the attention to detail, and
precision winemaking techniques, Quilceda Creek also sources their grapes from some of the very best vineyards in the
entire state, including Champoux Vineyard, Galitzine Vineyard and Wallula Vineyard, which contain Cabernet Sauvignon
along with Palengat Vineyard and Tapteil Vineyard which contain other other varietals including Merlot, Cabernet Franc
and Petit Verdot.
In our recent visit to the winery we tasted the wines from the 2012 vintage, and were hugely impressed with the
quality of winemaking in this simply stunning set of wines. One wine that continues to impress for the money is
the CVR, formerly known as their 'Red Wine.' The 2012 CVR is a rich and viscous product of an incredible vintage.
At an affordable retail price point, it serves as an incredible value and a great special occasion wine. The
highlight of the tasting was the flagship 2012 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine was so incredibly complex
and rich, it was difficult to find the slightest flaw. This is a memorable and age worthy wine that is drinking
incredibly well in its nascent phase. The 2012 Galitzine Vineyard Cabernet Saivignon was another spectacular wine
which was viscous and masculine with beautifully ripened fruit and graphite edges. This is one the best
Galitzine Vineyard Cabernet yet. Superstar winemaker Paul Golitzen is hitting his stride with these remarkable 2012 releases.
