Red Mountain, Washington; April 20, 2001: DeLille Cellars and Quilceda
Creek Vintners have partnered with the renowned Ciel du Cheval Vineyard to
develop two new, "state of the art", Red Mountain AVA vineyards. In
partnership with Quilceda Creek, the 20-acre Golitzin Vineyard is bound on
the south by Ciel du Cheval Vineyard. In a separate partnership with
DeLille Cellars, the 20-acre Grand Ciel Vineyard is also in the heart of
the Red Mountain AVA and is bound on the East by Ciel du Cheval Vineyard
with the new Golitzin Vineyard to its south. The new vineyards are being
carved from Ciel du Cheval Vineyard property that was never developed by
its owner, Jim Holmes.
Ciel du Cheval is one of Washington State's most celebrated vineyards that
has supplied outstanding grapes to many of Washington's grand cru wineries
for over 20 years, including: Andrew Will, Leonetti, Kiona, McCrea
Cellars, Waterbrook, as well as DeLille Cellars and Quilceda Creek. At
Ceil du Cheval and the adjacent vineyard sites there is a great combination
of unique vineyard soils and a sweeping southwest exposure that faces the
Yakima River. The vineyard sites exhibit a magnificent territorial view
looking west up the river valley.
Quilceda Creek Vintners has distinguished itself as one of the greatest
Cabernet Sauvignon producers of the New World. Quilceda Creek has received
ratings of 94 points or better for its Cabernet Sauvignon for 4 of the last
5 vintages in Robert M. Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate, making it consistently
the highest rated Washington Cabernet Sauvignon in this publication.
Additionally, Robert M. Parker Jr.'s Fifth Edition Wine Buying Guide lists
Quilceda Creek as one of only four Washington wineries given his highest,
5-star rating.
DeLille Cellars has earned a similar reputation for its Bordeaux-styled
blended red and white wines. DeLille has received many accolades from Wine
Spectator, Decanter Magazine, The Wine Enthusiast, Connoisseur's Guide,
Food and Wine and have been selected as Winery of the Year 2000 by the New
York Times on the web at WineToday. Robert M. Parker Jr. has also chosen
DeLille Cellars as one of only four Washington wineries to receive his
highest, 5-star rating.
