Winemaker's comments
The color is a dark, dense ruby/purple. The nose of black currents, violets and oak explode from the glass. On the palate, the wine is rich and complex, offering up all the flavors suggested by the nose and adding additional nuances. The tannins are soft which make the wine seamless, supple and smooth.

1988 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

Wine Advocate Reviews

“The just released 1988 Reserve Cabernet offers a huge nose of spicy, cedary cassis fruit, and dense, super-rich concentrated flavors with gorgeous texture, huge body, and an impeccable sense of balance. A superb Cabernet Sauvignon from start to finish, it should drink well for 20 or more years.”

Winemaker's comments
The 1988 vintage marks a decade of Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignons! Consistent with all our previous vintages it is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is elegant and very approachable, with some hints of black cherry. On the finish it is full, rich, smooth and velvety.

1988 Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine Advocate Reviews

“It has plenty of richness, complexity and extract. Looking for a great American Cabernet Sauvignon? Quilceda Creek deserves to be considered by anyone with a conscientiously stocked wine cellar.” Score: 89-92 Barrel Sample

"The 1988 (Cabernet Sauvignon)is almost as promising(as the 89). Although less extroverted, it has plenty of richness, complexity, and extract." Score: 89-92 Barrel Sample

Wine Spectator Review

“Firm, ripe and concentrated, with a rich supple core of black cherry, currant, anise and oak that's sharply focused and tightly tannic. A young, intense, complex wine from a first-rate vintage. Drinkable now, but has the potential to gain through 2000. 1000 cases made.” Score: 89
