Winemaker's comments
Although produced from a different blend of vineyards due to the freeze of the previous winter, the 1991 Cabernet still has all the hallmarks of a Quilceda Creek wine. It has an intense nose of berries and black cherries mingled with the aroma of new oak. On the palate it is full of flavor and depth, with the fruit elements supported by ripe tannins and the sweetness of new oak.

International Wine Cellar Review

“Deep saturated red to the rim. Brooding but vibrant cassis aroma. Almost painful flavor intensity (raspberry!) on the palate, and extraordinary extract, but totally unevolved. Powerful acidity give the wine great penetration and freshness. Explosively long finishing fruit. An extremely impressive young wine that is up to the reputation of this cult cabernet specialist. " Score: 92+

Wine Advocate Review

“Washington state’s premier Cabernet Sauvignon producer has fashioned a full-bodied, highly extracted, ferociously tannic, backward Cabernet that required 3-5 years of cellaring. This winery’s hallmark is great purity allied with considerable body and structure, without sacrificing any of the superb cassis fruit, all of which is gently kissed by high quality oak. It is a shame Quilceda’s wines are rarely seen outside of Washington, but who can blame that state’s chauvinistic wine enthusiasts for keeping these heroic wines to themselves? This is a 20-year Cabernet Sauvignon.”

Wine Spectator Review

“Smoky, toasty flavors and firm tannins almost mask the pretty berry tones that emerge gradually in the glass, growing polished and almost plush. Needs until 2000 or so to see if the fruit can make itself heard. 750 cases made. (8/31/97)”
