Our next private release is the highly anticipated
2009 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley in January 2012. Over the last
ten years this Cabernet Sauvignon has received an average score of 98.8 points from Wine Advocate.
No other wine in the world has ever achieved such consistently high accolades for
Cabernet Sauvignon. Here is what the Wine Advocate has to say about the 2009:
"They [the Golitzin's] are considerably more excited by the 2009 vintage which they
describe as 'wines with tons of aroma - really good' which, given their understated manner,
I interpret to mean really terrific. For this tasting, the 2009's were all tasted from
barrel samples. The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley might, in the long run, prove to
be an even higher level [than the 2008 - 99 pts]. This beautifully proportioned, fragrant
Cabernet deftly combines elegance and power." Barrel Sample: 99-100 pts.
Jay Miller,
Wine Advocate #196, August 2011.
The 2009 growing season started with a one week late bud break, but the weather
remained warm and veraison occurred on time. August and September were hot and dry,
easily ripening the small, loose clusters. The berry diameter was incredibly small and
all of the fruit was harvested at optimal physiological maturity.
Winemaker Paul Golitzin describes the resulting 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon as graced
with layers of blackberry, plum and cassis fruit with complex floral nuances of
violets, star anise, dark chocolate and Asian spices. The wine has an amazing
texture and depth while maintaining great purity, elegance, and focus.
Anticipated Maturity: 2015-2029.
