The Columbia Valley Red Wine is a blend of lots from young vineyards,
Cabernet Sauvignon from an established vineyard that did not meet our
increasingly stringent requirements for our Cabernet and Cabernet Franc and
Merlot grapes from old vineyards that were in excess of what we wanted to blend
into our ultra-premium wines.
The 1998 Columbia Valley Red Wine has a complex range of flavors from black
cherry and mineral to vanilla bean, smoke and sage. It is a medium to full-bodied
wine with a lovely texture and sweetness to the fruit. Drink it over the next
5-10 years.
1998 Columbia Valley Red Wine
"Fell deep red. Black plum, game, licorice and menthol on the nose;
faintly syrupy suggestions of superripeness. Smooth and fat on entry, then
fairly dense in the middle, with floral, mineral and menthol notes. Comes across
as slightly green and disjointed, but has size and length. Finishes with firm,
slightly dry tannins." Score: 88
