2010 Quilceda Creek Palengat Proprietary Red Wine

2010 Quilceda Creek Palengat Proprietary Red Wine

Paul Golitzin, Director of Winemaking, comments:

The 2010 Quilceda Creek Palengat Proprietary Red Wine was sourced primarily from our family owned Palengat Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA. The vineyard is located on an ideal south facing slope on Phinny Hill, right next to the world famous Champoux Vineyard. Palengat Vineyard is grown by Paul Champoux. It is 8.5 acres in size with 59% of the vines being high density (2270 vines/acre). Having this many vines/acre really fills in the middle palate fruit, and body, often missing from varietals such as Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This Merlot based wine displays rich boysenberry, plum and fig fruit with nuances of soy, licorice, espresso, roasted meats and pipe tobacco. Aged in 100% new French oak for 22 months, it is a blend of 64% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot. Drink now - 2025.

Wine Advocate Review

"Refined, elegant and supple, yet also rich and concentrated, the Merlot-dominated 2010 Palengat has 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot in the blend and spent 20 months in 100% new French oak. Gorgeous on the nose, with notions of creme de cassis, violets, graphite and mint, it flows onto the palate with full-bodied richness and depth that's paired with a seamless, incredibly elegant and polished texture. Firming up on the finish with masses of tannin, mineral and juicy acidity, this incredible 2010 needs 3-5 years of bottle age and will have upwards of 15-20 years of ultimate longevity." Drink now-2030.
