1990

Quilceda Creek
Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

quilceda creek washington state columbia valley cabernet sauvignon

The 1990 Cabernet, while similar in vineyard composition to our 1989 Cabernet, reflects the softer character of the vintage. Its blend is 96 percent Cabernet and 4 percent Merlot, all fruit coming from the Kiona, Klipsun, and Mercer Ranch vineyards. They enjoyed a perfect growing season, with bud break in mid-April, bloom in June, and consistent weather all the way through to harvest. The wine spent 22 months in a combination of French oak (85 percent) and American oak (15 percent) and from release showed intense aromas and flavors of chocolate, violets, and black cherries.

1990 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

Our 1990 Reserve, while sourced from the same vineyards as our regular 1990 bottling (Kiona, Klipsun, and Mercer Ranch/Champoux), is 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 100 percent new American oak for 31 months. Upon release, it was bursting with the aromas and flavors of blackberry, black cherry, coffee, and tobacco. Rich and full-bodied, its tannins are firm but integrated, making it all of a piece. We produced 75 cases.
