2008 Quilceda Creek Galitzine Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

2008 Quilceda Creek Galitzine Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Paul Golitzin, Director of Winemaking, comments:

We are proud to release the Quilceda Creek 2008 Galitzine Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from the Red Mountain AVA. The Galitzine Vineyard is a partnership between our family and the Holmes family of the highly acclaimed Ciel du Cheval Vineyard. This high-density vineyard (2074 plants/acre) was planted in 2001 and 2002 with Clone 8 Cabernet Sauvignon on windblown Hezel over Warden soils. These deep, consistent sandy loam soils are ideal for root development, vine health and vineyard uniformity. The 2008 offers intense aromas and flavors of black fruits, espresso, cocoa powder, tobacco and asphalt. Aged in 100% New French Oak for 22 months, it is a blend of 99% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Merlot. This wine is a wonderful example of the Galitzine terrior and showcases what can be accomplished within the Red Mountain AVA. Drink now - 2030.

Wine Advocate Review

"The 2008 Galitzine Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon contains 1% Merlot. It proffers a brooding aromatic array of toasty oak, Asian spices, incense, a hint of sage, violets, and assorted black fruits. More structured than the preceding wines, "No doubting it's Red Mountain" say the Golitzins, it has plenty of ripe tannin more than balanced by loads of succulent fruit, exceptional density, richness and power. Give it 5-6 years and drink it from 2016 to 2033."
